I am now separated with 3 children.

My 3 kids’ dad gets Universal Credit and Child Benefit for all of them. I claim as a single person (whilst still sharing the same home) but I will move out soon.

I can’t find any information on whether I can claim for a 3 bedroom house for me and the kids because their time will be split 50/50 between the 2 of us.

The relationship is so amicable that our 50/50 arrangement is informal – we haven’t seen a solicitor and do not have any documentation to prove this.

Does anyone know whether Universal Credit will pay 2 lots of rent when separated parents share the children?

And would we need to prove this agreement in any way?

Thanks very much for reading, I feel confused because I don’t know where to turn for the answer.

    Hi,

I might be wrong so I’d suggest you call your local CAB, but if you have child benefit paid to you for one of the kids, you ought to be able to get help with your rent etc.
