Hi all, I’m new to the forum so hello and hope you are all safe and well. I am reaching out for anyone who might be in the same position as me. I have a daughter turning 18 in April who I have been paying child maintenance for from she was 2. Very sadly since then (after a horrific court battle which seriously impacted her) I’ve had no contact with her or her family to know circumstances, nor would reaching out be an option. Is there anyone out there been in a similar position and know what I should do? I understand payments could be ending soon? Any advice very welcome. Thanks

    hi,

are you paying through CMS? if so, then I would suggest you call them, and they can check if childs mother is still receiving child benefit. as long as child benefit case is open, you would be expected to carry on making payments.

Yeah I am Steve. And what’s maximum time support is paid? No issues in doing so as long as it should be but I’m conscious of paying beyond when it may not be going to who it should be..if that makes sense. As my daughter 18 in April she would likely be A level year (NI based) Thanks for advice btw

You’re normally expected to pay child maintenance until your child is 16 or until they’re 20 if they’re in school or college full-time studying for: A-levels. Highers, or. equivalent.

Thanks Steve. So a reliance on my daughters mum ceasing the child benefit when it should be stopped? Thanks again

yeh i think it will be that way unfortunately. very difficult  to know whats happening when you don’t have contact with the kids.
