    Hi

I’m looking for advise on ending direct payments for child maintenance as I will move to direct support for my daughter as she starts university.

my daughter is now 19 and stayed on at college for an additional year to study further A leaves. During this additional year I maintained payments to the mother. This course has now ended in June and I am looking to continue financial support directly to my daughter. Question is, does a direct payment to the mother end when the extra year of study completes as this seems to be the advise on a number of forums where an extra year is taken to complete college studies and the child is over 19 years old.

    Hi Posttaylor

    I hope you are well.

My understanding is that your legal obligation to make payments stop when your child finishes their ‘A’ Levels or equivalent. I’m sure it doesn’t include Uni.

You may see people quoting that you need to pay until your child is 20, but this only applies if your child is still studying for / completing their ‘A’ Levels or equivalent.

Well done you for continuing to support your Daughter.

    Regards

    Jenks
