Hi, I hope you are all well. I’m currently pregnant and single. I live in London and work 100% at the moment. I am a EU national and don’t have any family here to support me, also the baby’s father isn’t in the UK. So when I go back to work I will need to work 100%, otherwise I cannot pay my bills. But childcare for 5 days a week is so extremely expensive I cannot afford it. I only have pre-settled status, so I cannot get universal credit. Do you have any tips on what I could do? Or a cheaper option of childcare (than around 1100 £ per month). Are there any support groups or nanny sharing or anything?

    Hi Maria,

I hope you’re well and the pregnancy is going fine. I am in a similar position. How about doing a compressed work week 8-6 for 4 days? I found a Nursery in south London and it’s quite reasonable and great quality. Things have a funny way of working out! It is well

    best wishes

    Hi,

You can also call the  Gingerbread Single Parent Helpline for advice on what help you may be able to get with paying for childcare. Here are the details:

    Gingerbread Single Parent Helpline – Freephone 0808 802 0925
Opening hours: Mon 10-6, Tues 10-4, Weds 10-1 and 5-7, Thurs 10-4, Fri 10-4. They can get very busy so there is likely to be a wait before your call is answered.

    Alex
