Hi all, i’m looking at writing a Will so that if anything were to happen to me my daughter would be okay and with the right people bringing her up.

Her father doesn’t show much interest in her and to be honest doesn’t put himself out to bond with her, not only the fact that I feel he is unfit as a father ( he declined all training of her equipment , he suffers with mental health issues ( I have no problem generally with mental health ) but when he has suicidal thoughts and 3 members of his family have committed suicide as you can imagine its worrying.

Can I appoint Special Guardians? Does my daughters dad have to agree to this ?

Really anxious if I were to be taken ill or need to be in hospital for any reason, what would happen to my daughter.

    Thanks in advance

Hi there…….I made a will when my daughter was tiny….it was really difficult because wills are about money and other financial assetts.  It is so so so sad that child care isn’t considered a thing that should be included in a will.  At that time, I was advised to write a separate letter as an appendix to the will.  I desperately need to revisit my own will as the person who I had entrusted  the hope she could care (with ample financial support from my house being let out) is no longer an option.

Let me know what advice you get, and good luck

Hi Rojo, thanks for your message, yes I had heard that writing a separate letter would possibly need to be done, I will see what I can find out. Hope you manage to revisit your own will.

I researched this as My childs father lives abroad – he is Bahraini. He was very abusive and I had to leave for our safety – I worry that if anything happens to me – he could take him because he is on the birth certificate. I was told Legally this is the case so I can write a letter and attach it or get him to sign something (not gona happen).

If you find out anything else please let me know as this keeps me awake at night 🙁
