Hi, in June I will become a single Mam. I currently live with my parents, I work, but I’m self employed so won’t receive maternity. I don’t know what to do, is it best to start claiming benefits now and if I do what benefits could I claim? I’ve never claimed before and I’m 25.
will I be Better off moving out as when I tried the online calculator I was only entitled to 145 a week when living with them even though they are on a low income and they both work so won’t be able to help with childcare so I wouldn’t be able to work.

There seems like there are so many different types of benefits it’s all confusing.

    thanks

You’ll get £82 per month in child benefit.

The rest is really down to what you have earned in the last year. I assume you’ve been paying tax & NI so you’ll be entitled to SMP for your maternity leave.

Have you tried the Gingerbread helpline?
