Gingerbread welcomes new Chief Executive

Fiona is a former Director of Policy and Communications at Save the Children and has worked as Head of Public Affairs at the Consumers Association, Director of Campaigns at Amnesty International, UK and at Friends of the Earth. She brings the charity broad experience as a director and senior manager and as a strong and effective campaigner for social justice and for children.

Fiona says:
"I have been impressed by the work of Gingerbread and One Parent Families for many years and feel very privileged to be taking up this post. Lone parent issues are high on the policy agenda with the proposed new work requirements and child support reform likely to impact significantly on the lives of lone parents and their children. The recent merger of One Parent Families and Gingerbread - Britain's leading lone parent
organisations - gives the charity a louder and more effective voice for Britai National charity Gingerbread is pleased to announce the appointment of Fiona Weir as its new Chief Executive.

Gingerbread combines policy research and campaigning with the provision of direct services for single parents. It runs a Freephone Single Parent Helpline and advice service on 0800 018 5026. The charity publishes a large range of comprehensive information booklets covering issues such as tax credits, returning to employment or education and child support. It has long-established expertise in running employment programmes for single parents, working with private, statutory and other voluntary sector organisations to deliver these. Fiona Weir replaces Chris Pond who has moved to the Financial Services Authority.
