The Disabled Child Project: Evaluation Report Summary
November 2006
Report by Jenny Pannell.
"It's all down to me again, it's always passed back to me. The length of the summer holiday is especially worrying, I start to get ill worrying about it. His dad hasn't seen him, I haven't had a break for ten days ..."
Caring for a disabled child is very much a lone parent issue. Over a quarter (26 per cent) of lone parents are caring for a sick or disabled child,1 which means that there are around half a million parents in the UK bringing up at least one child with additional needs on their own. One Parent Families designed the Disabled Child project to provide a seamless information and advice service for lone parents with sick or disabled children. The Disabled Child project was funded by the Parenting Fund (Department for Education and Skills) over 15 months from January 2005 to the end of March 2006. There were three months for preparatory work and 12 months of operation.
