A Court Presumption of Child Contact: Five Good Reasons Why Not

This is a note which One Parent Families (now Gingerbread) wrote in early 2006, describing why we oppose the introduction of a legal presumption that children should have contact with their non-resident parent. We also supported the introduction of a mandatory risk assessment to see whether child contact is safe. In addition, we called for adequate funding for contact activities, for family assistance orders and for the Children and Families Court Advisory Support Service (CAFCASS) to act as family welfare officers, a role which will be crucial in reducing the conflict between parents.
