Family Finances

January 2010

'Family Finances' is a new report from Gingerbread, with new information about families' income and spending. We also look at families' financial capability, the key financial products they have, and their attitudes to managing money, comparing single parents with couple parents and the general population. Single parents are generally very good at keeping a close eye on their money but low incomes mean that getting by is difficult even with the best money management skills, and the report looks at the ways parents get by when the money runs out. Child poverty is a key issue for single parent families and the report presents some new ways of thinking about poverty as well as ideas for reducing it.

Gingerbread would like to thank The Royal Bank of Scotland Group for making this work possible.
