This factsheet explains the different options for making arrangements for payment of child maintenance, how the Child Support Agency (CSA) calculates child maintenance, how to deal with the CSA when you have made an application and future changes to the CSA. It is written for single parents, mothers and fathers, who are the main carer for their child or children.

The CSA calls the parent who is the main carer (that is, the parent the children live with most or all of the time) the ‘parent with care’ and the other parent the ‘non-resident parent’. In this factsheet we use the same terms.
