This factsheet gives details of the support you can get if you are a single parent with older children and you are not working, or are working less than 16 hours per week. It explains what Jobseeker’s Allowance is and how the age of your children affects which benefits you can claim. There is also information on other help, such as tax credits and help with housing costs.

If you have younger children, or are unable to work because you are disabled or unwell, there is a list of other Gingerbread factsheets that you may find helpful at the end of this publication. Further advice on all of the topics covered is available from the Gingerbread Single Parent Helpline. The information in this factsheet is correct as of October 2009.
