Free advice on welfare benefits and tax credits
<font class="titleid1siteid0"></font>
Gingerbread has become aware of a number of companies advertising on the internet that charge for providing advice on issues affecting single parents. This includes advice on welfare benefits, such as housing benefit, and child support.

If you search the internet, many of these companies come out at the top of the list of results and can appear to be official services.

However, they often operate through premium rate telephone services that can cost £1.50 per minute or more. Some also charge to help you to fill in forms.

If you are unsure about claiming welfare benefits or how to sort out your child support payments, how much you could receive and how to make claims, you can call the Gingerbread Single Parent Helpline on 0808 802 0925, which is free to call from landlines and some mobile networks.

You can receive information, and advice if you need it, on issues such as benefits, tax credits, debt, child support, education, contact and other family law matters.

The service is confidential and we can also try to signpost you to local services that will offer free advice and practical support if you need it.
