J K Rowling becomes President of One Parent Families
This content dates from 16/11/04 when Ms Rowling became One Parent Families (now Gingerbread)'s President.
National charity One Parent Families is delighted to announce that J K Rowling has become its President. Ms Rowling replaces Ian Hay-Davison who has occupied the role since 1991.
Once herself a lone parent, Ms Rowling has supported the charity since 2000 when she became its first Ambassador. Since she became involved with the charity, Ms Rowling has helped to raise awareness of the difficulties facing one-parent families by speaking out in support of the charity's work and about her own experiences as a lone parent. The charity now has a growing team of Ambassadors, including Arabella Weir, Neil Pearson, Graham Taylor, John Amaechi, Kate Fawkes and Lisa Aziz who take this public work forward.
J K Rowling comments: 'I am truly honoured to be made President of One Parent Families, whom I have supported for the last four years. It is gratifying to be a part of a charity which works so hard to support single parents at ground level, while giving them a voice in the national arena.'
Chief Excutive of the charity Nicola Simpson said: 'We are very proud indeed that Jo agreed to become our Presient and very grateful for her continued interest and commitment to our work on behalf of all parents raising children single-handedly.'
