  • At least £1million owed in child maintenance in every MP’s constituency in the UK

    New figures published by the Department for Work and Pensions [1] show that, in each one of the 650 parliamentary constituencies (1), child maintenance arrears owed to parents with main care of children is now at least £1million, rising to over £7 million in Milton Keynes South, £6,565,000 in Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford and £6,288,000 in Great Grimsby.

    On 1 February, the House of Commons voted to overturn the Lords amendment to the Welfare Reform Bill which was intended to prevent single parents being charged for child maintenance services, where they have no alternative but to use the statutory system to get financial support from the other parent for their child.
