CSA's Top Ten Excuses undermines government's case for charges

02 September 2011

Commenting on the CSA’s publication today of ‘Top Ten’ excuses for non-payment of child maintenance, Gingerbread Chief Executive Fiona Weir said:

“This shows the lengths to which some parents will go to avoid paying child maintenance. It is therefore extraordinary that the government is planning to make it even harder for resident parents to get the money owed to their children, by charging them to access the CSA. Unless this plan is withdrawn, thousands of single parents who could not afford the fees will have no choice but to manage without the money altogether.

“By publishing a handful of extreme excuses, the government is trivialising the very serious situation facing hundreds of thousands of parents caring for children who are struggling to make ends meet without child maintenance.”
