STOP CSA CHARGES: Information on the proposals

What is the government planning?

How would the new charges affect me?

Why charge for a new child support service?

What does Gingerbread think about new child maintenance proposals?

"Strengthening families, promoting parental responsibility” - the government consultation on the future of child maintenance

The government has now published its response to the consultation, which you can find here http://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/strengthening-families-response.pdf. We responded with a press release stating that “It is disappointing that the government intends to plough on with plans that will make it harder to get child maintenance for many, after the Prime Minister himself has recognised the need to support single parents dealing with ‘runaway’ ex-partners”.

I am a mentally and physically disabled single mother, I am in the middle of being allocated an sds budget and am to find out how much I have to contribute to this from my dla on Friday. I have just been through the trauma of being assessed for eligibility to receive ESA and now I wake up to the news that I am basically going to lose a considerable amount of maintenance. I live with my mother for the sake of my son so that he will not become a carer. Even though I have to pay my mother £600 per month to live with her I do not receive housing benefit, council tax benefit or income support. I do believe that when the government has finished with me I will be homeless along with my son. I am therefore looking in my diary for a space in between assessments, hospital appointments etc,to find time to have my second nervous breakdown and unfortunately this is not a joke.
