Single parents' stories

Single parents are not all the same - one thing we know is that people of all ages, backgrounds and circumstance find themselves raising children on their own.  In fact, one in four families is now headed by a single parent.  We're starting to gather stories of different people, to show what life is really like for single parents in Britain today.

After leaving a violent relationship, Leigh became a single dad to his nine month old daughter. Feeling isolated and lonely, he pushed himself to get out there for his daughter and stumbled across a Gingerbread group for single parents in his local area. His daughter now a teenager, Leigh has just set up his own Gingerbread friendship group. In his story, he shares his experiences as a single dad and the pride he feels for the "charming and thoughtful young lady" he has raised. Read more.
