A gift in your will
Imagine the difference a gift in your Will could make to single parents and their children
We rely on donations and gifts in Wills to continue our work supporting single parent families. If the time is ever right for you to include a gift in your Will, please remember us.
You don’t have to be wealthy and a gift of any size means a lot to us and to the families we support. Whether it’s a specific sum, an item or even one per cent of whatever is left after you have provided for your loved ones; your gift will make a difference to the lives of many single parents and their children.
Where we've come from
In 1918, Lettice Fisher founded Gingerbread, then called The National Council for the Unmarried Mother and her Child. The charity had two founding goals: to reform the Bastardy Acts and Affiliation Orders Acts laws which discriminated against illegitimate children, and to provide alternative accommodation to the workhouse for mothers and babies. These twin pillars of work – political campaigning and providing direct support – are still at the heart of what we do.
Where we're going
One in four children is now raised in a single parent family. Single parenthood is part of the diversity of modern family life, and yet many parents who, despite difficult circumstances, do a brilliant job of raising their families on their own continue to face stigma, disadvantage and discrimination.
The impact is stark – a child growing up in a single parent family in the UK is twice as likely to live in poverty as a child whose parents are still together. Our vision is to create a society where single parents are valued and treated equally and fairly. You could join us on the journey by remembering us and the families we support in your Will.
